Nine Black Alps News:

  • - 25th September 2011

The final recording session for our next album has just been completed. Acoustics were plucked, shakers were shaken and tambourines rattled throughout the day. We are now putting these sound archives into some sort of coherent package for you to enjoy. Mixing and editing start this week, with 13 songs recorded. Computers are fired up, mixing desks are warming up, and tape delay is looping. Go! xo

hey there, we're about halfway through recording our fourth album. our first as a 'power trio'. myself and david and been taking it in turns playing bass guitar. james did all his drums in one day cos he can do that sort of thing. and now we're committing noise crime by recording guitar and vocals at my house.

we don't have a title, artwork, label or any plans for the album yet. just realised that the time was right to do something.

there are about 12 or 13 songs on the go and so far it's all pretty raw. we recorded all the drum tracks in huddersfield without any rehearsals and without having played together for nearly a year, so if you want to hear something that's going to sit nicely on the radio, this isn't it.

it's our first album that we've recorded by ourselves and the plan is to finish recording by the end of september, mix it in october and then get rich by christmas...

if you're into reading song titles of things that haven't been finished yet, here's what we've got: be my girl, don't forget to breathe, my one and only, phosphorescence, find it my own way, penny cinderella, another world, living in a dream, away from me, playing your song, waiting room, what you wanted and hand me down.

we haven't got any plans to tour yet cos we have no cash. we might do the odd one off gig but i've heard grunge is all the rage this year so am sure there will be some kind of hipster band with cool clothes and great hair near you at some point.

uhhhh can't think what else i was going to say. but thanks for reading...

So we find ourselves back in the studio, a year older, wiser and rustier - recording a bunch of new songs that may or may not find their way onto some form of album.

We're now a man down however, bidding a fond farewell to Martin who has gone on to pastures new with his own band, Milk Maid.

For now though, it's back to the deafening racket.

We'll let you know how things progress.

Sam Forrest's latest solo album 'No Imagination' was released today, and is available on CD from Desert Mine Music. His third album of bittersweet melodic acoustic feedback drones!

Yes, it's true. Our new album is a complete sell out. All our boxes of 'Locked out from the Inside' CDs have now been mailed out around the globe, so thanks for making that happen. Of course, the album is still available to buy as a download, so don't be sad.

EDIT - Actually I've found a handful more! Woop! Back on the merch page they go...

    We are on holiday.

  • - 10th May 2010

Heyup folks. Don't go to Newcastle-upon-tyne this weekend, instead come and join us in Newcastle-under-lyme near Stoke-on-trent for a gig at the The Old Brown Jug. Not the Old Brown Shoe as someone called it.

It's a double header with Nine Black Alps and the Longcut, this Saturday.

There might be more info on their myspace page, but i didn't see listings so maybe it's not updated that often. I dunno.

    Well, I'm going anyway.

Hello folks - thanks to everyone who came down to the Kraak Fundraiser / Nine Black Alps gig / knees up on Friday last!

Your attendance was appreciated by us, cos we had fun playing our first gig in a while, and by the Kraak Gallery, who now have a few extra quid. The Kraak Gallery is off Stevenson Square in Manchester's Norther Quarter and is currently showing an exhibition of Steve Gullick's photography. You should go.

So the next item on the calendar is Edinburgh's Haddow Fest next Sunday. Time to check the tyres and the dipstick in the van...
