Not blogged for a while have we? Been a bit lame-o on the blogging front. No turds brewing in the blog bog. Steered clear of the blog-o-rama. Not been bashing the blog rod. Left the blog blowing in the wind. Left the blog for dead. Abandoned the blog zone..... etc.
Sorry folks.
So what's new? Erm.. not much. Currently in Glasgow. Sam is selling merch, martin is playing something on iTunes, David is sort of sleeping, and I'm typing.
Last night was fun in Edinburgh, fairly chaotic gig cos our tech Phil was in hospital having his leg amputated but we stumbled through the set pretty efficiently. Then after the unnecessary disco loadout we hit the electric circus karaoke rooms. Brilliant. Set list was (approximately):
Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams
Sweet Child 'o Mine - Guns 'n' Roses
Boombastic - Shaggy ft. David Jones
Crazy, crazy, crazy nights - Kiss
I'd do anything for love - Meat Loaf
Final Countdown - Europe
I think there were some more but it's a bit of a tiger blur. Luckily my voice is still intact today, despite screaming the high notes.
Right our buddies 'Young Aviators' (Formerly Black Alley Screens) have taken the stage so it's time to sign off.
Later.
James

Very funny, love it! I bet that blood didn't taste too good though! Xx
Love it. :) Seems quite low-budget home camcorder-ish, but frankly, who cares? :) What're the chances of getting MTV2 playlisted...? ;)

Swine Flu Tour '09 - Fri, 16 Oct 2009 8:16pm
Greetings from a uncomfortably chilly dressing room at Carlisle Brickyard! We have survived our first gig last night - nay, not just survived, but thrived. Fueled with Nurofen Cold and Flu and Chicken Parmesans we took to the stage at the Ku Bar in Stockton and blasted through 20 songs of the finest alpine back catalogue tracks. Coughing fits and phlegm splatters aside, it was a thoroughly ace start to the tour.
You might have guessed that we're all suffering with some varying degrees of colds or swine flu or blocked faces or sore knees or any combination of the above. Well, the show must go on eh?! And I'm doing fine so far (apart from my knee), hopefully I won't catch the lurgy going round.
Phil's just gone to get the heater from the stage. Why is there a heater on the stage? Well, it's an integral part of our atmolightfiesta. No so integral that we can't borrow it to warm up the dressing room though.
Erm, yeah. I think that's the news for today. See you on the Brickyard stage in about 2 hours for some more rock n roll.
Thanks and good night.
James x
Any chance of a sneaky peak at the set list? Can't wait for Thursday!
haha classic
Parmesan is great when you are pissed, but don't attempt one sober!!!
this is a pre-tour blog - Wed, 14 Oct 2009 7:05pm
sam is ill. david is getting ill. im getting better. james will be getting ill tomorrow....as will the people of stockton, the first date of the tour. please dont mistake the word ill for the slang term 'sick' that lurks the streets....it's very different and less fun. the plan is normally for things to be sick, but not ill, not diseased, not coughing up thick brown smegma. i do have a theory though that once we're back in the warm womb of the van all pain and tiredness will vanish and as quickly as it came it will disappear.
second paragraph
erm.....
third paragraph
so, yes, we're back on tour tomorrow and last week we realised/admitted that we've played the same set for the whole of this year so there will be older songs and b sides thrown into the mix but no new t shirt design....just a different colour of the pedal design. i also need to spend this tour trying to learn how to dj for the thing i'm doing in wimbledon just after the tour.
all i need to do is have my final non-sandwich based meal and pack my bag.
see yerrrr

Today - Mon, 05 Oct 2009 8:41pm
Hey! So today our album was released. I'm not sure what I was expecting really, I guess for most people it's been out there for a while so today was more about being 'official' and giving the reviewers a deadline to slag us off by. Still feel like they're all missing the point. But you know what? I've not heard one bad word from our fans, and that's what really counts. So I'm really glad we're here - finally. Feels like this one has taken the longest.
No album release parties today though, just another adventure to the post office with tons of jiffy bags and a 5-hour battle with my wits and encroaching madness while wrestling with Paypal's IPN crystal maze.
Proper rock band behaviour resumes tomorrow though when we start rehearsing for the upcoming tour, gonna be great to be playing again. We feel like doing something different this time, think we might chuck in a bunch of oldies into the set or something. Still thinking about lighting too....
In the meantime its beer and the Bronx.
Laterz

Popularity Breakthrough! - Thu, 01 Oct 2009 3:27pm
hello friends,
sam here from nine black alps, your favourite tribute band. today we've achieved brand new levels of success. apparently the NME gave our album 'locked out from the inside' a fairly charitable 3 out of 10 points/stars/whatever they use to sort out their mental faculties.
i've yet to read the aforementioned article as i'm unable to go near the magazine as it's not fit to wipe my cat's arse with but apparently it said something along the lines of 'as we're giving it away for free it must be worthless' and the rest i can probably guess being along the lines of 'sub-nirvana, unimaginative blah blah blah' which is fair enough, i've never claimed our music was original or even good, it's just what we do and i wouldn't expect anyone to like it. never mind a bunch of public schooled gobshites who spend their time discussing the finer points of florence and the machine...
i think it's actually made me realise that we must be doing something right. it must mean somebody really doesn't like us there or takes offence to us which is good news as from what i can gather when the magazine isn't writing their fifteenth obituary of some poor sod dead rock casualty like richey from the manic street preachers or announcing that it's the forty seventh anniversary of some godforsaken joy division album they seem to be stuck in some hellish braindead spasmodic mid eighties mindfreeze where horrendous insipid shite like the smiths are heralded as iconic and wankerish synth pop made by dickheads with top shop credit cards are given ample room to blurt high and mighty tributes to angular gobshites from the home counties talking about their art and poetry and pushing things forward and the new music revolution and 'have you checked my blog?', 'read my twitter'....
save us from these fuckwits please. they are vultures sent from IPC parading revolution as a fashion statement, wearing their scars of adolescent torment as some kind of shield against original thought and basically circle-jerking in their london bedsits in an orgy of self-congratulatory, mastabatory, feeble-minded, unoriginal, pseudo-intellectual, trend-spotting, cool-hunting twattishness.
as david bazan warned reviewers, 'just pretend you don't make your living from selling advertising'. i've heard the NME's weekly sales are still slumping to something like 20,000 copies a week and when it finally goes under i will laugh long and hard and see all my friendly reviewers down the job centre first thing on monday morning.
thanks guys and girls, you really made my day
sam
This is the sort of thing that makes me want to marry you...
Fucking word although ironically i discovered your band a few years back on NMEs website. PS tour oz soon
heeheehee. aah, the voice of the masses, eh? it's about time some pointed the gun at that bullshit Arctic Monkey's Fanzine. Well done is all i can say!! :)
Florence + The Machine - Good. Smiths - Great. Joy Division - Brilliant. Nine Black Alps - FANTASTIC. NME - Horse shite
Sam, you've just said everything I've been thinking for ages! Music is shit at the moment (apart from you guys of course!) don't take any notice and keep it up!
I just remembered, they had Buy Nothing as one of their songs you must hear! BASTARDS!
You're not bitter or anything Sam... Lol, they'll probably report next issue about how you're bitter, twisted and have proved their review correct (passing that as journalism)!
I used to buy the NME. Then I grew up and started buying Smash Hits instead. Did they even bother to listen to the album? Might I suggest that in future Sam you & the band wear sweater vests, tight drainpipe jeans and start writing on your hands?
Well said sam. Well said indeed :)
Sam, the day you get a decent review from the `suck up to the latest fad media whores` is the day you sell out mate, never gonna happen is it and thank fuck!! do what you do best man, make the music you want to make. thanx, my copy arrived today!!!
