In the winter of 2003 Sam Forrest played an electric guitar on the third floor of a house in South Manchester.

During the following spring he met David Jones in the Star and Garter pub where they discussed Sonic Youth, tape hiss and vinyl crackle.

That summer they asked James Galley about ride cymbals and also whether or not he could play drums. He said 'Yes.'.

The three of them then asked Martin Cohen if he could play bass and he also said 'Yes.'.

Before long they had decided to call themselves Nine Black Alps. The name was taken from the Sylvia Plath poem 'The Couriers'.

Most of that autumn was spent conjuring up songs before aKouStik aNarKhy gave them their first show, Melodic Records gave them their first single and Island Records gave them their first album: 'Everything Is'.

In the following months played their music to people in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, U.S.A, Canada, Japan, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway and broke many guitar strings in the process.

Nine Black Alps released their second album 'Love/Hate' in the autumn of 2007, toured a bit, then got dropped.

They are now thinking about recording their third.
